Juliana da Conceição Pereira has a BA in History from the Catholic University (PUC-Rio, 2014). She holds a Master’s degree (2017) and a PhD (2021) from the Postgraduate Programme in History at the Fluminense Federal University. She is currently doing a post-doctoral internship at the History Department of PUC-Rio with a CNPq/Faperj grant. Since 2025 she is an assistant professor at UFRJ’s School of History.
She is the author of the award-winning book A Era do Maxixe: a história social de uma dança nacional (1870-1930), published by the Arquivo Geral da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro in 2022. She was part of the team of the project Capoeira Contemporânea no Rio de Janeiro (1948-82). Her research interests focus on black cultures in the entertainment industry.
