Marcelo Cardoso, PhD

Marcelo Cardoso da Costa has a degree in Social Sciences and Geography (UFRJ), a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning (UFRJ) and a PhD in Social Memory (UNIRIO), with the thesis A Baixada tem ginga. Capoeira in the Baixada Fluminense territory, de 2024. He is currently a sociology lecturer at the Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) and a member of the research group‘Presença Negra: educação, identidade e memória afro-brasileira na Baixada Fluminense’ (CNPq) and the Centre for Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous Studies (NEABI/IFRJ – Campus Duque de Caxias).

He works in the areas of sociology, education, social memory and cultural heritage and is developing research into capoeira in the Baixada Fluminense.
