
Luiz Renato Vieira is a sociologist, with a master’s and doctorate in Sociology of Culture, and also completed a postdoctoral degree in Comparative History. Graduated by Mestre Zulu (Brasília), Mestre Renato is one of the leading mestres of the Beribazu Group, where he has been teaching capoeira since 1982. He is the author of books and articles on capoeira and popular culture which have been translated into several languages.
He is a professor of Capoeira at the Faculty of Physical Education at the University of Brasília and legislative consultant of the Federal Senate since 2002, working in the areas of culture, sport, minorities and speech writing. He is a consultant and collaborator of public institutions involved in the formulation of public policies for capoeira, such as the Ministry of Culture, Palmares Cultural Foundation and IPHAN (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage).
