Paulo Siqueira is born in Bonsucesso, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro. He began his capoeira apprenticeship on the Pavão Hill in Copacabana in the early 1970s. He was a student of the Mestres Roque and Adilson. In 1980 he travelled to Germany, hired by a martial arts academy to teach capoeira classes.
