PhD Julio Cesar Tavares

Professor of Anthropology at the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro State. He is the author of the first Master thesis on capoeira, in 1985. Julio has been Visiting Professor at Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar for the Doctoral Program in Cultural Studios since 2002. He is the Director of the Laboratory of Ethnography and Communication Studies, Culture and Cognition at the Anthropology Department (UFF). He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of ASWAD – Association for the Studies of the Worldwide African Diaspora.
